It’s 10:10:10, a global day of doing.
It’s been almost 2 months here on castle grounds. Time flies but at the same time the days goes by so very slowly. Being at AC gives you strange feelings and emotions you can’t describe. It’s a place that makes you think a lot about life in general, about your place on this planet. It makes you question about many things, things that once was not important to you, but now a big part of your life. It’s a place to discover yourself through challenges you’ll face on a daily basis. Challenges that push you to your limits, to make the right decisions or to make the wrong ones but to learn from you’re mistakes.
Being at AC makes you crave alone time, although you don’t realize it from the pressure to socialize 24/7. This is one of the challenges I personally face, the challenge to chose between what I want and what I need.
AC wasn’t all I hope it would be. Arriving at UWC made me run head first into reality. It’s mission statements are too idealistic. We can work towards it and it’s not impossible but because we students only have 2 years here and universities now demand too high of an expectation academically, the mission statement silently slips away.
The best way to concur this problem is to adjust our lifestyle, to not have a balance social, academic and community service life but to chose our priorities. It won’t be easy to distinguish what you want from what you need, but that’s because this is another challenge AC hits us in the face with. A challenge that makes us who we are, or discover who we are.
AC may not be the place I expected, but it has made me understand a really important lesson. It doesn’t matter where you are, it’s what you make of it. It’s your life, you control it, you make the most of it. The place can give you the opportunity, but it always comes down to your decision and will.
